People reports that Morgan Freeman was driving in Tallahatchie County when the car accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Mississippi Highway Patrol public affairs officer Sgt. Ben Williams.

A passenger, whose name was not released, was also in the car with Freeman.

Memphis station WMC-TV reports that his 1997 Nissan Maxima was “heading eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 when the car went off the edge of the road and overturned several times before coming to a stop.”

Immediately after, emergency crews airlifted Morgan and the unidentified passenger to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

His spokeswoman, Kathy Stringer, says,

All I can say is one word: His condition is ’serious.

Uhhh. ‘The Dark Knight’ seems to have some curse attached to it. I mean, Heath Ledger dies, Christian Bale gets arrested, and now Morgan Freeman is in a critical state following a car accident? WTF! And, btw, what was he doing driving a 1997 Maxima…weird choice.
