People reports that Morgan Freeman was driving in Tallahatchie County when the car accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Mississippi Highway Patrol public affairs officer Sgt. Ben Williams.

A passenger, whose name was not released, was also in the car with Freeman.

Memphis station WMC-TV reports that his 1997 Nissan Maxima was “heading eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 when the car went off the edge of the road and overturned several times before coming to a stop.”

Immediately after, emergency crews airlifted Morgan and the unidentified passenger to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

His spokeswoman, Kathy Stringer, says,

All I can say is one word: His condition is ’serious.

On Sunday, Shia LaBeouf was arrested for drunk driving after being involved in a car accident in Hollywood.

The accident left him in the hospital, recovering from a hand surgery.

His rep said,
