Sad news: John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s 16-year-old son, Jett, died Friday after an apparent seizure while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas. An autopsy is scheduled for today (via The Insider). An official statement has been posted on the Travoltas’ website. Some questions surround Jett’s death: Gawker reports that Travolta’s rumored gay lover and one of family’s two nannies, Jeff Kathrein, discovered Jett’s body, and writes, “His qualifications for childcare are unclear, other than being a Scientologist like Jett’s parents.” Some are also wondering whether Jett’s seizures were caused by autism, which Scientologists do not recognize as a medical disorder, believing it “falls into the category of ‘mental illness’” (via Hollywood Backwash). “The health problems of tragic teen Jett Travolta would not have been properly treated unless his celebrity Scientologist parents had rejected their religion’s theories on medicine, outraged experts said yesterday,” writes the New York Post. “In the end, though, a life is lost, which is a tragedy,” writes Post Script, the mom of a son with autism who previously suffered from seizures. “I hope all was done for that child that was possible.”
Meanwhile, rumors are flying that Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson have split: “They left an awesome string of fight stories in their wake,” writes Socialite Life. “There’s the one about Lindsay running out of Mansion and into an alley on New Year’s Eve night screaming to Samantha, ‘When I storm off, you are supposed to follow me!’…here’s hoping these two are dunzo so Lindsay can go back to making men miserable and Samantha can move on.” The Dirty has an exclusive video of another fight in the Miami airport (”Everyone who worked there was still talking about it like it was the highlight of their life”) on January 2. But Staralicious says the two are looking for a place together in Dubai: “Lindsay fell in love with the glitz and money in Dubai and decided this is the place for her.”
